Goverment negligence contribute to poaching in Surkhet community forests
Poaching of different species of animals and birds in community forests of Surkhet district has increased of late, thanks to the negligence by the government bodies. Because of the poaching in the community forests of the district, the existence of animals and birds have been pushed into a danger. Poaching is rampant in community forests located in western belt adjoining to Bardiya National Park. Few years ago, wild boars, deer, tigers, leopard, turtles among other animals were in plenty of numbers. But, due to the rampant poaching, their number has been dwindling day by day, according to locals. On Tuesday, a team from District Forest Office, Surkhet successfully rescued a boar that was trapped by poachers from Tripureshwor Community Forest in Birendranagar, the district headquarters. Dal Bahdur Salami, President of Tripureshwor Community Consumer Forest said that the poaching of animals and birds is on a rise due to the negligence from government bodies. He further appealed to all for support to control poaching of animals and birds at the community forest.
