Free education still a far cry in Myagdi schools
The government has announced free and compulsory primary and secondary level education. But, the announcement has not been implemented fully. As there are no allotments of teachers in the schools, guardians are forced to pay school fees to the schools’ management to provide salaries to the teachers. Although, the constitution has guaranteed free education for primary and secondary levels, students in some 46 community schools in Myagdi district are not able to get benefited from the constitutional rights. As the government has not posted teachers to the schools, the school management committees have been raising money from the guardians to pay to the teachers. A guardian is forced to pay as much as Rs 500 monthly fee for kids studying in Ranjan Jyoti Primary School that is in Mudi- 3 Naour as salaries for teachers. The school has classes only up to Grade 3. Lok Raj Roka, a local of Mudi- 3, Naura said that the government has not extended any supports since 2067, thus they are forced to pay monthly fees to provide salaries to the teachers. Not only Ranjan Jyoti Primary School, many schools in the district are facing similar problems. The District Education Office has failed to post teachers to the schools. It has increased financial burdens to the guardians.
