Aspiring model Jacqueline Mithila k!lls herself over ‘marital trouble’
Mithila, 25, was found hanging from the ceiling by her scarf in her Chittagong home on February 3, port police OC Mainul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday. Her body was handed over to her family after an autopsy the same day. Though the incident happened on Friday, it came to light after her friends and family raised an uproar on social media over the week. Mithila’s father Swapan Shil, a barber from Feni, said his daughter’s real name was Joya Shil, port police’s Sub-Inspector Moinuddin said. Swapan has accused seven people, including Mithila’s husband Utpal Roy and his mother, for driving his daughter into taking her life. SI Moinuddin said they had found Mithila’s mobile phone and a note lying near her body. “The note read: I married out of love. He [Utpal] stopped loving me after marriage,” he said. The phone could not be unlocked as of yet, the SI added. Utpal hails from Chittagong’s Fatikchhari and works at Matiranga agriculture office, SI Moinuddin added, quoting Mithila’s father. Swapan Shil said Utpal and Mithila had been in a relationship for seven years before getting married last November at a court. He alleged Utpal’s family kept him away from seeing his daughter after the marriage. He also said Rupa, one of Utpal’s cousins, had offered Mithila a hefty sum of money to call off their relationship. Mithila had turned down the offer, reiterating her love for Utpal. Two of Mithila’s Facebook posts prior to her death indicated that she was in a fragile, emotional state.
